New-age education needs new-age solutions

With the rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI), higher education institutions cannot stand aside. We have been also hearing a pressing question "Are educators ready to adapt assessment practices to keep pace with AI advancements?".

The workshop attracting nearly 200 delegates as quality assurance experts and officers 

In response to this question, LHU on November 14 afternoon, 2024 organized a workshop themed "Redesigning assessment in the age of AI". The workshop brought together nearly 200 delegates, including digital transformation experts, quality assurance officers, and lecturers from 11 higher education institutions to share, exchange, and find new directions suited to the context of Education 4.0. In particular, there were keynote speakers as digital transformation experts including Dr. Tran Duc Linh from RMIT University Vietnam and Dr. Le Phuong Truong from LHU.

In his opening speech, Vice Rector of LHU Nguyen Vu Quynh stated "AI is changing every aspect of life, and education cannot depend solely on traditional assessment methods. The workshop will highlight the challenges and opportunities that technology brings, thereby orienting more modern, effective and fair assessment methods. We believe that the workshop is not only a platform for knowledge sharing but also a driving force to motivate higher education institutions to innovate their teaching and assessment methods."

The workshop recorded positive feedback and sharings around the theme “AI competency framework for lecturers and students in higher education”, providing the delegates with a deeper insight into how AI can change the nature of teaching and learning. One of the key highlights is the role of the AI competency framework – a fundamental factor that helps lecturers and students shape the mindset and essential skills to meet the requirements of the future labor market.

In addition, Dr. Le Phuong Truong - Head of Office of Educational Testing and Quality Assurance, LHU shared the theme "Redesigning assessment in response to the AI ​​era". He introduced breakthrough solutions such as automated scoring, plagiarism detection, and student capacity analysis through Big Data.

The workshop also emphasized the importance of maintaining core educational values: honesty, creativity and sustainable development. AI is not a tool to replace humans but a partner, supporting decision making and optimizing processes.

In the discussion session, the delegates jointly shared their practical experiences and recommended the application of AI in educational quality assessment. Through in-depth discussions, the delegates developed specific plans to apply AI to teaching practices, ensuring fairness and improving the quality of assessment.

As the host, LHU once again reaffirms its position in leading the trend of digital transformation and educational innovation. With strong investment in facilities and teaching staff, LHU has been continuing to be a leader in applying advanced technology to training and quality assessment.
